Lactation Support Providers

No one needs to tell you how important it is to help families

maintain lactation during disasters!

Join the effort:

Continue to encourage and enable families to prepare for disaster by:

  • Preparing a Disaster Kit for Lactation

  • Learning and practicing hand-expression if they become separated from their child or are a pump-dependent mother. If electricity and clean water and space are available, make sure they know how to clean their pump parts correctly.

  • Learning to cup-feed

  • Express the importance of direct breastfeeding and work towards enabling families to do so for health and safety, especially during disasters and emergencies. Help them get their child to the breast with the low-resource drip-drop technique

  • For families not fully feeding their own milk, teach them to use single-serve liquid formula with disposable bottles and teats if possible and correct formula preparation and cleaning techniques if not
